This December 6, like every year in Peru, Peruvian Park Ranger Day is celebrated. And at ARBIO we would like to thank our team. Celebrate their hard work, and show their importance in the work of conserving the Amazon forest.
An important pillar in the protection structure
Although at ARBIO each ally contributes to conservation, nothing would be possible without the presence of our team in the field. Each donation and contribution is directed mainly towards patrols, opening of trails, maintenance of boundaries and facilities, control of the area, and monitoring of biological diversity carried out by the park rangers.
Their daily morning patrols on the edges of the ARBIO’s concession prevent our borders from being invaded by those who seek to destroy the forest, keeping our territory healthy and intact. In addition, they also carry out seed collection sessions of vulnerable or threatened species to study and propagate them in our nursery. The ARBIO forest represents a genetic bank for the regeneration of deforested or degraded areas.
Wildlife monitoring
Monitoring with camera traps tells us which species live in our concession. A healthy ecosystem is a diverse ecosystem, and through the material that our park rangers collect from camera traps, we know that ARBIO’s forest is in very good condition. With a great variety of birds such as birds of prey, parrots and cracids; small curious rodents, such as the añuje and red squirrels; gigantic families and herds of mammals, such as peccaries and huanganas; to the imposing presence of felines, such as the jaguar or the puma.
Furthermore, the presence of our team in the camp, attentive at night, prevents illegal hunting in the vicinity of our concession. An activity that unfortunately occurs by loggers and settlers who trade bushmeat and little by little unbalance the balance of the Amazon ecosystem. Within our concession, that does not happen!
This 2024
This year, our team of park rangers received a visit from the Italian organization Giant Trees Foundation. And with this visit new skills were learned. After an intensive course, our entire team received a tree climbing training certificate, learning new tools to continue their work and grow as professionals in the field.
Thus, our team has not only been growing in number, but also in knowledge and capabilities. As professionals, as people, and as protectors of the forest.
In addition, this year there was the construction and maintenance of the station’s infrastructure. Of course, respecting the forest and the surroundings, these modifications have allowed the team to now have a larger kitchen-dining room, more toilets, a better internet connection, and a new common space to rest in comfortable hammocks after a long day of work. And well deserved rest!
Peruvian Park Ranger Day
For all these reasons and more, we want to dedicate today to them. Those who do irreplaceable work in the conservation of our forests, completely immersed in the nature of the Amazon jungle. Thank you very much ARBIO team!
And also, not to miss out on celebrating the rest of the Peruvian park rangers. Beyond the borders of our concession. A profession that is not very visible but extremely important for the existence of our natural areas. A big applause for all the Peruvian park rangers!
